Research Assistant (Britt Laboratory)


An opportunity exists immediately for a motivated Research Assistant to join the Britt Laboratory with experience in animal handling, tissue processing and flow cytometry to provide technical and research support to assist the lab in understanding what mediates breast cancer risk to develop novel treatments and preventatives.


The successful candidate should hold a BSc (Hons) or equivalent, and will be expected to conduct rigorous, valid and ethical research both independently and as part of the research team. The person must have excellent organisational and time management skills, and a high level of interpersonal skills. A background in cancer research, with experience in animal handling and flow cytometry is essential. Experience with mouse models of breast cancer, mammary gland cell isolation, microdissection and genotyping are desirable.

The position is initially for a fixed term of 12 months (full-time), with the possibility of extension. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience (Level A [RA2-RA6]). Essential: Experience with cell biology, molecular biology and biochemical techniques
Essential: High quality written and oral communication skills

Desirable: Knowledge of breast cancer mouse models
Desirable: Experience with mouse mammary gland cell isolation for FACS
Desirable: Experience with nucleic acid isolation and purification
