The Software Engineering Specialist (Database Systems and Web Applications) will be involved in the development of PathOS: a decision support system for the analysis and reporting of clinical DNA sequencing data. The position is with a bioinformatics team developing advanced diagnostic techniques in the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. PathOS manages the storage and manipulation of DNA variant information.

The successful applicant will join an existing team of software developers and bioinformaticians developing the PathOS application. The Software Developer will improve the functionality of PathOS to meet the needs of the internal stakeholders as well as other national genomics initiatives.

They will also need to work closely with developers of bioinformatics analysis pipelines that tightly integrate with the system.

 

Key Effectiveness Areas:

  • Assist with the deployment, delivery, and support of clinical genomics software.
  • Write documentation, including standards, procedures, and data definitions.
  • Apply quality assurance and testing processes to the software development process.
  • Ensure that the database solutions are technically and functionally successful to meet accreditation requirements.
  • Apply modern software development methodologies to develop correct, robust, scalable and verifiable solutions that meet the needs of multiple stakeholders.
  • Interact with key stakeholders (clinical bioinformatics analysts and software developers) to ensure the database integrates with the bioinformatics and clinical analyses required for accredited genomic testing.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of other tools and systems used by Peter Mac as need arises.Perform requirements analysis for future enhancements of the pipeline and review competing/alternative technologies.

Work with a team of developers to design and implement methods, tools, platforms, and infrastructure for clinical genomics.
