The aim of this role is to provide bioinformatics software development expertise to support cancer research and analysis of high throughput sequencing experiments data. This position supports cancer research and molecular pathology projects at Peter Mac through the development of automated bioinformatics pipeline for analysing genomics data including high throughput and next generation sequencing data.

The position requires a senior bioinformatics software engineer with extensive software development experience in automating pipeline processes on high performance computing setup.  Experience with bioinformatics analysis is essential.  The person will be capable of working independently as well as leading a team of software developers and bioinformaticians to work through multiple projects. This position will involve collaborative work with bioinformaticians from other institutes.

Selection Criteria Essential: Have a Bachelor or higher degree in Computer Science / Software Engineering / Bioinformatics or equivalent
Essential: Have prior full-time work experience (minimum 5 years) in a software development role
Essential: Have prior full-time work experience in a cancer bioinformatics role
Essential: Have prior experience working with cloud services and high performance computing systems
Essential: Have strong experience developing and maintaining bioinformatics analysis workflows / pipelines
Essential: Have experience developing secure solutions and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive data
Essential: Have excellent verbal and written skills to communicate effectively with project stakeholders from a variety of disciplines and institutes
Essential: Ability to work independently as well as leading a group of software developers and bioinformaticians to develop bioinformatics software solutions.
Desirable: Have prior experience working with Docker and other visualisation/containerisation tools
