Position Summary

We are seeking outstanding undergraduate students to participate in our six-week summer vacation scholarship program, and undertake research projects in areas as diverse as, Cancer Immunology, Cell Biology and Cancer Genomics & Genetics. Get involved in real-life laboratory-based research, and contribute to this exciting cancer research.

 

How to Apply


Applications are invited from current undergraduate students who have completed at least one full year of a Science, Applied Science and Biomedical Science, Medicine or similar tertiary course at the time of application.

Applications must be submitted through eRecruit and all supporting attachments uploaded electronically. Students must complete the online application form and submit as part of their application.  Applications must be received by 5pm, Monday 6th August 2018. Late applications will not be accepted.

A copy of the most recent academic transcript of results - This can be your unofficial transcript downloaded off the university website, or a copy of your official transcript. Note: If you are offered a place in the program following the interview process, you will need to obtain an original official transcript of results.

How to Choose a Project Area


On the Application Form, you need to rank the preferred project areas in order of preference. Ranking in this way allows you to express your science / research interest and helps the selection panel match your interests to available projects. To help you in this task, visit our website to find out more information about all of our research programs.


 What happens once you have submitted your application?

  1. The selection committee will view all applications, and select students for interview.  There are no minimum or maximum numbers of students selected for interview. 
  2. Students selected for interview will be advised by phone and/or email in the period from Monday, 13 August 2018 - Friday, 24 August 2018.  Note: Unfortunately due to the high number of applications received we are unable to acknowledge every application. Only successful candidates will be contacted.
  3. It is anticipated that interviews will be held at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, 305, Grattan Street, Melbourne 3000 VIC from 20th – 31stAugust 2018.     
  4. We match students to projects after feedback from the students and the supervisors.
  5. The timing of the project placement is then worked out in consultation with the student and supervisor.
  6. If you are awarded a Peter Mac Summer Vacation Scholarship and are studying at a Victorian university, we will also work with you to prepare an application for a Cancer Council Victoria Summer Vacation Studentship 2018/19, applications for which are due in September. Note: All Peter Mac CCV Summer applications are prepared as part of this summer process. 
  7. All successful students must attend an Induction Program held on 19th November 2018 before commencing their project.

 

Selection Criteria Essential: Current undergraduate students who have completed at least one full year of a Science, Applied Science, Biomedical Science, Medicine or similar tertiary course at the time of application.
Essential: Applicants have completed the " Peter MacCallum Summer Research Scholarship Application Form 2018-19" and upload it under "Expressions of Interest Preference Form"
