Together, we aim to lead a new era of cancer prevention, care and discovery, supported by state-of-the-art facilities at our new home within the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre building.

Your role in our future.

The Cancer Evolution and Metastasis Program requires a full-time research assistant who will fill an exciting role in the laboratory Assoc. Prof. Belinda Parker (https://www.petermac.org/users/assoc-prof-belinda-parker), working at the intersection between discovery research and metastasis-targeted clinical trials. This role will directly contribute to projects centred around personalised immune-based and targeted therapies for prostate and breast cancer, with a particular focus on targeting bone metastases. The laboratories rely heavily on patient metastatic tissue and novel preclinical models including patient-derived and metastatic mouse models of cancer, coupled with therapeutic screening and biomarker discovery. There is a strong emphasis on clinical collaborations and active clinical trials to translate results from the laboratory bench to the patient bedside.

The successful applicant will have a major role in profiling the microenvironment and immune signalling in metastatic tumours, including multiplex immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry analysis of patient-derived tumours. They will play a critical role in maintaining associated databases and records to facilitate preclinical research projects in the laboratory and be critical for performing a broad range of techniques including tissue culture, patient cell line derivation, histology (including Opal mIHC and spatial technologies) and flow cytometry. Examples of work conducted by Assoc Prof Parker can be found in the publications: Brockwell et al npj Precision Oncology 2019, Bidwell et al 2012 Nature Medicine, Owen et al EMBO rep 2020, and Balaur et al Nature 2021. The candidate must have extensive expertise as a research assistant in a relevant discipline (preferably in Oncology), exceptional communication skills, time management skills, and attention to detail are a must. Technical precision whilst carrying out experiments is also critical.
