The Translational Research Laboratory in the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Cancer Research Division, is seeking an experienced research assistant who is ready to assume responsibility for the processing of biospecimens for a range of ongoing and prospective biomarker-based clinical trials.

The research assistant will be required to liaise with on-site and external clinical trial coordinators and staff to receive biospecimens and facilitate the immediate processing of samples for both tissue banking and direct translational research endpoints.


The research assistant will need to be familiar with all blood-based biospecimen processing methods (plasma, PBMC, CTC, ctDNA, slide preparations) as well as storage of fecal and buccal samples. The role requires meticulous adherence to numerous trial protocols, a commitment to safe work practices, and significant organizational and project management skills. In addition, sample management requires proficiency with database maintenance and data entry.


The research assistant will also be responsible for maintaining laboratory stock and supplies and assisting with translational research experiments.

Selection Criteria Essential: Honours Degree (or equivalent) in Medical Science or related field.
Essential: Experience in clinical trial biospecimen processing.
Essential: Experience with CTC and ctDNA sample collection.
Essential: Up-to-date immunisation record suitable for human biospecimen handling.
Desirable: Proficient with REDCap, MS Access and FreezerPro databases.
Desirable: Experience with fluorescence immunohistochemistry.
