About Short Stay Unit (SSU)

SSU is a 6 bed unit providing postoperative care to patients prior to transfer to inpatient wards or discharge home. SSU also has 2 cardiac monitored beds with capability to provide continuous cardiac observations alongside rapid patient assessment and interventions to stabilise presenting symptoms relating to disease and treatment regime. Additional training is required to care for these patient groups.

This fast paced ward utilises nurses' critical thinking and acute care skills in a supported team environment.

 

Your role in our future.

The surgical oncology service at PMC is expanding its service with demand for beds increasing. As such, the SSU will be increasing its bed capacity to meet this demand.

We are currently recruiting highly motivated registered nurses for permanent part time positions. The ideal applicant will preferably have experience in surgical oncology or have acute surgical nursing background.

 

The successful applicant will ideally demonstrate:

  • Ability to adapt to changing and dynamic ward environment
  • Ability to effectively engage and work within the multidisciplinary team
  • Sound patient assessment skills with demonstrated critical thinking and initiative
  • Willingness to learn and commit to providing best evidenced based practice

Selection Criteria Essential: Are you registered with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and is your nursing registration current?
Essential: 12 Months experience in surgical oncology nursing within an acute care setting.
Desirable: Competence of continuous cardiac monitoring.
