Position Summary

Outstanding candidates are encouraged to apply for positions now open at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre – a place where our normal days are extraordinary; as are the people we care for.

Peter Mac is one of a handful of integrated cancer research, education and treatment centres in the world. Each day our team strives to provide the very best in cancer care, even better treatments and potential cancer cures for all people affected by cancer.

Globally, we are facing one of the most pivotal times in the pursuit of cancer cures, and Peter Mac stands at its forefront. Together, we aim to lead a new era of cancer prevention, care and discovery, supported by state-of-the-art facilities at our new home within the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre building.

Your role in our future.

The Victorian Centre for Functional Genomics (VCFG) is a core technology platform embedded within the Peter Mac Cancer Research Division and supports researchers Australia-wide to perform cutting edge discovery-based research using high throughput screening strategies including CRISPR, Compounds and RNAi coupled with high content imaging and Reverse Phase Protein Arrays.  The VCFG has also recently become the first institute to purchase a 3D bioprinter for screening primary cells and cell lines in 3D in high throughput.

We are looking for a highly enthusiastic and engaging Research Officer to join the VCFG team to primarily support the CRISPR screening portfolio.  Someone who wants to make a difference enabling researchers to perform high throughput discovery-based biology and someone who is highly motivated by developing, extending and applying technology. This position is very diverse as we engage with researchers with varied biological questions who perform their screens in the lab under our guidance. The successful person will work with a team of highly experienced Research Officers and Research Assistants to deliver a nationally recognised service of excellence focused on cutting edge technologies.

This position will build on the VCFG’s extensive portfolio and continue developing new technologies and associated SOPs alongside guiding researchers through detailed assay development, and interpreting outcomes of screens. You will have a PhD and between 2-4 years postdoctoral experience, a demonstrated capacity for independence, supervision, excellent trouble shooting skills and clear written and oral communication skills. The VCFG is positioned within the VCCC building in Parkville, is fully equipped with extensive automation and state of the art facilities.

The position is initially for a fixed term of 12 months, with the possibility of extension. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applicants must address all essential selection criteria as listed in the Position Description.
