The Peter Mac Improvement Program is an organisation wide program which aims to support delivery of world-class cancer care primarily by coaching staff in improvement science to build the organisations improvement capability. The Improvement Program employs a variety of improvement science methodologies, including the Safer Care Victoria (SCV) endorsed Model for Improvement, and works closely with clinical and operational leaders to support the delivery of priority improvement work throughout the organisation.


The Improvement Advisor reports to the Manager of the Improvement Program, and will support the delivery of one or more internal improvement projects. The Improvement Advisor will participate in a range of internal upskilling opportunities and experiential learning to develop their capability to initiate and manage improvement projects from initiation through to completion.

 

We are looking for an internal staff member who is interested in joining our small team 2 days a week, for about 10 months in what might best be described as an Improvement Internship.  This part -time secondment provides a permanent staff member with a great opportunity to develop their skills in improvement science and project management whilst coaching and supporting the delivery of a real life improvement project that has been prioritised by the operations leadership.

We are advertising at HS5, but may have some flexibility to salary maintain for the right applicant. The start date will most likely be mid-late July 2022.

Selection Criteria Essential: Tertiary qualification in health related discipline.
Essential: Experience effectively communicating with staff from different professional backgrounds.
Essential: Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with good organisational skills and attention to detail.
Essential: Experience in meeting facilitation.
Essential: Demonstrated ability to organise own work and complete tasks on time.
Essential: Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Essential: Ability to work flexibly with a wide variety of stakeholders.
Essential: Some knowledge of the key elements of the Model for Improvement, including how to use Plan Do Study Act cycles to test changes.
Desirable: Experience in applying the Model for Improvement or other service redesign methodologies such as LEAN, Six Sigma, visual management or process mapping.
Desirable: Experience in project reporting and presenting information to others in a professional, user-friendly format.
Desirable: Experience in small and large group facilitation, and or, presenting.
Desirable: Skills in data analysis using Microsoft Excel.
Desirable: Experience in project management and or delegating actions and time frames to others.
Desirable: Has completed training in improvement science or quality and safety.
Desirable: Has led or participated in an improvement project.
