Position Summary

Outstanding Graduate Nurse candidates are encouraged to apply for positions now open at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.


The Graduate Nurse Program at Peter Mac provides opportunities to consolidate and expand your professional, organisational and clinical knowledge and skills whilst working as valued members of our nursing team. We offer a flexible range of support to assist graduates in adjusting to their role and the small intake of Graduate Nurses enables us to tailor support to meet individual needs.


Our 12-month program offers two six-month rotations or allocation to one unit for the duration of the program. Graduate Nurses allocated to the Operating Suite will remain in the unit for the 12 months.


The Graduate Nurse Rotations include:

Ward 3A:  Clinical medical focus on people who have been diagnosed with cancers involving: bone and soft tissues, lungs, skin, head and neck, brain, gastrointestinal, urological and gynaecological systems.

Ward 5A: Clinical focus on people diagnosed with haematological and breast cancers. Haematological malignancies include: myeloma, lymphoma, myeloproliferative neoplasms.

Ward 6A: Clinical focus on people requiring surgery as part of their cancer treatment. This includes people who have been diagnosed with cancers involving: gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, urological and gynaecological systems, prostate, breast, melanoma and sarcoma.

Cancer Imaging: A comprehensive range of general and specialist diagnostic, interventional and therapeutic services are offered.

Operating Suite: A comprehensive service for patients undergoing complex cancer surgery. Six theatres, 2 procedure rooms incl. dedicated endoscopy unit, Day of Surgery Admission (DOSA), Anaesthetics, Intra-operative Post Anaesthetic care, Recovery unit for high acuity patients.

Day Therapy

Comprises of 5 areas: Chemotherapy, Medical, Transfusion, Apheresis and Clinical Trials. Graduate Nurse rotations include: Medical Day unit and Chemotherapy

32 positions available - maximum of 64 hours per fortnight (except Operating Suite, which is full time)
