This Clinical Service Development Manager position is an autonomous leadership role focused on ensuring the strategic development and operational delivery of the 'Peter Mac Prehabilitation Centre’.

 

In collaboration with key stakeholders, this strategic role will have responsibility for transforming and expanding a sustainable and commercially viable prehabilitation program at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

 

This position will help to develop the ‘Peter Mac Prehabilitation Centre’ as an entity that focuses on medical optimisation, fitness and wellness before and after cancer treatment, including surgery, with emphasis on transforming it in to a self-sustaining, semi-autonomous, commercially viable prehabilitation centre with appropriate governance. It is envisaged that this Centre will conduct its own Research and Development activity, underpinning clinical practice in prehabilitation with world class research and research training, and will become a major advocate for influencing governmental policy on prehabilitation strategies and linking in with healthcare funders and community-based resources.

 

The Clinical Service Development Manager will manage and develop;

 

A. External strategies that include;

  • Support service development, including leveraging care delivery using strategies that encompass IT and telehealth innovations,
  • Identify infrastructure and research funding, through traditional mechanisms e.g. grant funding and through innovative pathways e.g. philanthropy and fund raising events
  • Advocate for governmental and insurance industry funding for preoperative prehabilitation reimbursement, and
  • Advocate for improved access to prehabilitation facilities for patients in regional and rural areas,
  • Expand this model of supportive care across multiple domains, including but not limited to surgery, e.g. post cancer diagnosis, bone marrow transplant patients, frail patients,

B. Internal strategies that include;

  • Develop governance, oversight, standard operating procedures related to the day to day running of the prehabilitation centre,
  • Develop sustainable funding to establish a team of core clinical personnel for the centre (e.g. care coordinator, physiotherapist / exercise physiologist / clinical psychologist, nutritionist, other specialist medical etc.) to make these positions clinically relevant and sustainable beyond the three-year tenure
  • Develop and implement a program of research and research training that facilitates integration between research and clinical practice to improve patient outcomes
