Position Summary

Outstanding candidates are encouraged to apply for positions now open at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre – a place where our normal days are extraordinary; as are the people we care for.

Peter Mac is one of a handful of integrated cancer research, education and treatment centres in the world. Each day our team strives to provide the very best in cancer care, even better treatments and potential cancer cures for all people affected by cancer.

Globally, we are facing one of the most pivotal times in the pursuit of cancer cures, and Peter Mac stands at its forefront. Together, we aim to lead a new era of cancer prevention, care and discovery, supported by state-of-the-art facilities at our new home within the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre building.

Your role in our future.

Currently, we have an opportunity to employ a Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist (ROMP) Registrar. Applicants should have a degree in the physical sciences. A post-graduate qualification in medical physics from a university course accredited by ACPSEM is highly desirable. The successful applicants will be expected to enrol in the ACPSEM TEAP program for Radiation Oncology, and progress towards ROMP accreditation. Refer to the ACPSEM website (http://www.acpsem.org.au) for more information about the TEAP program.

This position will require some out-of-hours duties, which may include weekend work, and although primarily located at the Moorabbin campus, may involve some mobility between Peter Mac sites.

Potential candidates should be capable of self-directed work and have excellent problem solving skills. Good oral and written communication skills are required, as is the ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary department.

Registrars with no previous clinical experience will be appointed to the position of Medical Physicist, Grade One under the Victorian Public Health Sector (Medical Scientists, Pharmacists & Psychologists) Enterprise Agreement. Generous salary packaging options are also available.

The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is the largest public provider of radiotherapy services in Australia, currently operating a total of 16 linear accelerators over five campuses – our central campus at VCCC Melbourne, and facilities in partnership with hospitals at Box Hill, Moorabbin, Bendigo and Sunshine.

The Physical Sciences Department of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre comprises a large team with broad scientific and technical expertise. It provides the physics support for radiation oncology at all sites, is centrally administered and has a senior physicist responsible for each satellite centre. As well as involvement in commissioning of new equipment, quality assurance, clinical dosimetry, treatment planning, and training of junior staff (registrars), there are ample opportunities for clinically relevant research and development, involving collaboration between campuses.
