Position Summary

We are seeking outstanding undergraduate students to participate in our six-week summer vacation scholarship program, and undertake research projects in areas as diverse as, cancer immunology, cell biology, cancer genomics & genetics, bioinformatics and clinical research.


Get involved in real-life laboratory-based research, and contribute to this exciting cancer research.


To be eligible, students should be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree in Science/ Applied Science/ Biomedical Science or other relevant tertiary course. We are only accepting applications from students who will have completed a minimum of 3 years of full time undergraduate study by the end of 2020.


How to Apply

Applications must be submitted through eRecruit and all supporting attachments uploaded electronically. Students must complete the online application form and submit as part of their application.  Applications must be received by Thursday 6th August 2020.

Late applications will not be accepted.

  3. A copy of the most recent academic transcript of results - This can be your unofficial transcript downloaded off the university website, or a copy of your official transcript
  • Note: If you are offered a place in the program following the interview process, you will need to obtain an original official transcript of results.


What happens once you have submitted your application?

  1. The potential supervisors will view all applications, and select students for interview. 
  2. Students selected for interviews will be advised by phone and/or email in the period from Monday, 18th August - Friday, 21st August 2020.  Note: Unfortunately due to the high number of applications received we are unable to acknowledge every application. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews.
  3. Selected students and supervisors will work together to decide the placement dates.
  4. If you are awarded a Peter Mac Summer Vacation Scholarship and studying at a Victorian university with an interest to do honours, we will work with you to prepare an application for a Cancer Council Victoria Summer Vacation Studentship 2020/21, applications for which are due in September.
  5. All successful students will be required to attend an induction held in November 2020 before commencing their project.




Selection Criteria Essential: Students should be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree in a Science, Applied Science, Biomedical Science, Medicine or similar tertiary course.
Essential: A minimum of 3 years of full time undergraduate study should be completed by the end of 2020.
Essential: Applicants have completed the " Peter MacCallum Summer Research Scholarship Application Form 2020-21" and upload it under "Expressions of Interest Preference Form"
